ST MARK Y'ALL

Did you know Sts. Mark and Paul (and Barnabas!) were cousins?! Talk about some lofty genes...

On a somewhat related note, how awesome is it that literally billions of people's convictions and beliefs throughout history stemmed from about 12 guys? How awesome is the Holy Spirit? And Jesus? And Mama Mary?

We should stand up and be proud to be who we are. I love being Catholic! Our history is so rich, our churches are so beautiful, our charity and service is so extensive, and our Jesus in the Eucharist is so, so, so real. If all the Catholics in the world would make their voices heard, we could do a lot of good in this world. Come out of the woodwork!!

Worried about the hecklers (there are many...)?

I love Papa Frankie.

Prom, self-confidence, and JESUS!

It's prom season, people, and you know what that means.

Expensive dress. Expensive shoes. Expensive hair. Expensive makeup. Expensive nails.
Finding a date.
Critiquing said date ("How will he look in the pictures?").
Crash diets.
SPANX.
Worry, loneliness, fear, anxiety.
Pressure.

But that's not what prom is supposed to be. Prom is supposed to be a blast, a fun-filled night to celebrate the END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, BABY! We're supposed to hang out with our friends, feeling all gorgeous and whatnot, and laugh, have fun, and let loose a little bit. However, as my priest warned me, prom can be "a debauchery."

Now before you go getting all hasty and defensive and stuff, hear me out. Yeah, if you're careful, prom is an awesome, healthy experience! Just don't get all caught up in the grinding, alcohol, and all that biz. Because, trust me, prom can be really fun without it! I know, sometimes it seems like you're completely alone in your quest for moral uprightness. Just don't show off, and quietly be who Jesus wants you to be. It's so rewarding.

So when your prom comes around, relax, try your best not to worry about all those scrutinizing pictures heading your way, and have fun.

If you're feeling like you need a crash course in body confidence before the big night, look at these helpful hints. As beautiful sons and daughters of Christ, we already shine like gems in His crown. So flash your biggest, buck-toothed smile, flaunt those love-handles, and strut your stuff despite that gigantic mound of a zit on your back. ;)

Be honest with yourself.
Don't give up!
Realize the truth.

Have moxie! ;)

Overwhelmed? Not making time for Jesus? Worldy things?

Me too, unfortunately yes, and out the wazu.

As a well-rounded, busy, studious, blah blah blah person, this happens to me a LOT. Furthermore, those of us who tend to overcommit (heh, wonder who that is? ...) find that all this good stuff we're signed up for suddenly seems to mesh and blend into one big, ugly BAD.

NUTS. Yes, I said nuts. Get your mind out of the gutter. NUTS are nagging, unfinished tasks. They're the biggest stressors. SAY NO TO NUTS. Okay, I'm having too much fun with this. Seriously, get those out of the way!

For all you overwhelmed, hard-working sons and daughters of Christ, take a deep breath. Eat some cheese puffs, go hug your mom, your brother, or your dog (cats...eh.). Cry if you need to. Scream into your pillow. Look at these numbers. And above all, look to the Rock that is higher than you.

To make you smile.

Way to put it right out there, Solomon.

Happy Feast of St. Polycarp!

mawk-say, baby

mox•ie
     1: energy, pep
     2: courage, determination
     3: know-how

When someone has moxie, dey gawt it. By it, I mean it. When they walk into the room, you know it. When they have something to say, you know it. When they have something they believe strongly in, you know it.

The moxie girl is the confident girl. The moxie guy's got serious swag goin' on. The moxie people have what we all wish we had.

I challenge you to have some fo shizzle moxie. Seriously. Even if you don't have moxie, pretend like you do and it will come. Have moxie to share your faith and what you strongly care about. Walk with confidence and be daring. Be bold and live strongly for what you believe in, because you are beloved. That is something to have moxie about.

The antique ad for the soft drink Moxie, however, is a different story. Don't look too long; the eyes may bore canyons deeply into the depths of your soul.
